a little bit of explanation is necessary, i guess. there were four people in the car you see below, a subaru outback.

we were traveling to new hampshire for intersession in 2003. we hit a
snow bank after losing control on slippery roads, flew through the air,
and then slammed top-driver-side first into a tree.
all four passengers survived with minor injuries: the
backseat passengers sustained bruises and slight neck strain; the front
passenger (me) was uninjured; and the driver was knocked unconscious and
required stitches on his left arm from the scratch that produced the
spectacular bloodcicle seen below.
